CHRISTMAS TREE SHOPS SELECTS THE SHOPS AT WALDORF FOR DC METRO MARKET ENTRY
Growing Housewares Retail Concept Takes 35,000 Square Feet
WALDORF, MD (March 2, 2009) – Madison Retail Group announced today that Christmas Tree Shops has signed a lease to occupy 35,000 square feet at The Shops at Waldorf Center (formerly The Festival At Waldorf). The new location will be the retailer’s first location in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan market.“Christmas Tree Shops is a compelling retail concept with a value-oriented merchandising mix, one that will benefit the community and one we expect will bring a great amount of traffic to the center,” said Jim Farrell, Principal of Madison Retail Group.
Christmas Tree Shops is a very popular housewares destination with a substantial following in the Northeast. Since being acquired by Bed, Bath & Beyond in 2003, it has begun to expand into the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. The Waldorf location is expected to open in 2010.
Located just 15 miles from the Washington Beltway, The Shops at Waldorf Center is the premier, open-air retail destination for Southern Maryland, serving the vibrant community of Waldorf, as well as the surrounding Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary's Counties. The Shops at Waldorf Center is strategically positioned at the intersection of Routes 301 & 228, the two busiest roads in the county.
“This retailer is very selective in their expansion process and by choosing us it is yet another indication of how well-positioned The Shops at Waldorf Center is in this growing market,” said Mr. Farrell. The 500,000 square foot center’s tenant mix includes Michael’s, Babies R Us, Panera Bread, Chili’s Grill & Bar, PetSmart, Ross and Staples. The center will also undergo a 100,000 square foot expansion in late 2010.
